Udaipur Experiences

Udaipur is one of the royal places in Rajasthan which are on the list of tourists. Lately, it has been in the news for the big fat pre-wedding festive of India's richest man (2018-19) daughter Isha Ambani. The reason to chose this place for celebration was pretty clear; Udaipur has all ingredients of great hosting place; a palace, a lake, flurry of uber-luxury hotels & resorts & finger licking food. It is hard to ignore this modern city with a foot in the past.

Udaipur is some 650 Km from Delhi & approx 780 km from Mumbai. Two of the major cities in India. Udaipur has an airport which is located at some 22 Km from the city.

Udaipur City:

Udaipur city is spread across 37 Sq Mt of the area which is pretty small if compared to some of the major cities. Even though the area is comparatively small, the city offers some of the best experiences through its culture, architecture & royalness.

Udaipur City Palace

Udaipur is also known by the name city of lakes; apart from that Udaipur at one time was capital of Mewar dynasty. The impression of Mewar can be witnessed till date in the City Palace. The city palace was the abode of his highness & is now open for public viewing. The grandness & luxury of royal life will leave your eyes open. A great place to learn about Mewar dynasty, their culture & their lifestyle.

The moment you enter the Palace Gates, you will be welcome by the standing elephant sculpture. After entering the Palace you will be guided through many compartments each one is unique & amazing. There is also a mini garden on the top level of the Palace. It seemed designers, designed the palace citing every possible need of the kings & queens. From each corner, one can see different shades of Udaipur. It was a great experience to visit the City Palace.

Lake Pichola:

Udaipur has many surrounding lakes, but topping the list is Lake Pichola. Lake Pichola is an artificial freshwater lake constructed in 1362 AD. Boating experience is a must here. All the major attractions of the city are located near this lake only. There are many ghats around this where one can enjoy colorful sunsets & peaceful water. It is surely a great place to enjoy the evening.

Ambrai Ghat is located opposite to the City Palace. The two-part of the ghat is famous for sunsets. From one part, one can see the full glory of the city palace, palace wall reflecting yellowish color from Sun seems like its pleading you to capture this amazing site for memories & from another end of the ghat one can see the vibrant sun dimming behind the Aravali ranges.

There are numerous places to witness sunset in Udaipur, each one is unique & beautiful. Enjoying the sunset in Udaipur should be a mandatory activity for every tourist.

Food:

Rajasthani food uses lots of spices & we love it that way. There are numerous street foods in Udaipur which are must have. The topmost thing that comes into the mind is Pyaaz Ki Kachori. I have never tasted Pyaaz Ki Kachori as tasty as I have had here. One of the best things to try Rajasthani cuisine is by having Rajasthani Thali. There are various restaurants which provide Rajasthani Thali at a meager price of Rs 250 per plate.

Other Information:

Udaipur as a city is a perfect place for a family trip. There is art, culture, history, palaces, lake & food. What else you looking in a city to visit. But, even for one instance, you feel this city has shown you everything. Don't be disheartened there are few surrounding places which are worth a visit. Places like Chittorgarh, where Rani Padmavati sacrificed herself after her husband died on the battlefield; Ranakpur, Kumbalgarh etc are few places to visit.

If you are confident in driving on Indians roads, rent a motorbike which cost approx Rs 250 per day excluding petrol. This is the best way to cover the city's diverse attractions.

Shopping from the local market is a great way to collect some collectible. Unique footwear known as Jhooti is famous among locals & Udaipur has some of the best shops to buy mojris. The unique design & comfortable stitching makes it a must buy. Great for both casual & formal look.

City narrow roads & traffic moving from any direction can give you a few nervous moments while driving. The city center is very busy & bustling with autorickshaw & 2 wheelers. Due to which one has to be aware of the surroundings all the time.

After visiting Udaipur, I realized why the place is on the list of all the travelers. A great peaceful place, just relax around Lake Pichola & enjoy life to the fullest.
