Udaipur is a royal place in Rajasthan, India. Udaipur was once a capital city of the Mewar Dynasty whose impressions are still covering the city. From the outset, Udaipur is a gateway to the royalness of kings & queen. A place where one can experience the much-glamorized lives of kings & queens. There are many attractions in the city. So, here are the most sought after experiences in the city of lakes "Udaipur". This post will capture parts like things to do & places to visit in Udaipur.
Udaipur City Palace:Udaipur City Palace is the prime destination that everyone visits. A palace made, especially for Kings & Queens. A palace which has taken into account every minute details to meet their demands. A garden, lake view, music room, bedrooms, etc. The whole palace is a prime example of royal living. The palace has 3 or 4 stories which are open for public viewing. Mirror compartments, clothes, utensils, ceiling chandeliers, prayer rooms, gardens, etc are some of the must-visit points in City Palace. This place is must visit. Too many good things to witness here. An entry fee is applicable, an entry fee of Rs 300 per head is applicable.
City of Lakes:Udaipur is also known as the city of lakes, as there are many lakes in the city & near the city. Out of all the lakes in the vicinity, Lake Pichola is the one lake that you should visit. Most of the city attractions are near this lake only. An evening in the serene beauty of Lake Pichola is one of the rare experiences you will have while in the city. A boat ride is also one way to explore the city's most beautiful & mesmerizing lake. Apart from Lake Pichola, there is Badi Lake which is located in Badi village some 25 min drive from the city; Fatehpur Sagar lake which is in the city & Udaisagar lake, etc are some of the other lakes in Udaipur.
Monsoon Palace:Monsoon Palace is located some 40 min drive from the city. It is also known by the name of Sajjan Garh Palace from whom this Palace was built. Located on one of the many hills overlooking Fateh Sagar Lake whose main purpose was to watch monsoon clouds thus getting its name as Monsoon Palace. The Palace is in the renovation stage. So, there is nothing much to see here. However, the view is amazing in the evenings especially sunsets. Some of the young couples are using this place for a pre-wedding photoshoot. The route from the entry gates to monsoon palace is worth riding. With each passing curve, one can witness a new view. A ride through the rough roads is a must.
Sunsets:This activity is hardly mentioned anywhere in the blogs. When I visited Udaipur during the early winter season. I felt this should in the list of everyone. There are many places from where one can witness sunset & from each point there is something unique & beautiful. For example in Ambrai Ghat from one end, one can see sun rays falling on the walls of City Palace resulting in glowing yellow color building & from the other end one can see the sun vanishing into the mighty Aravali Hills. Another beautiful place to witness sunset is Karni Mata Temple. A ropeway is required to reach the top, there is also an option of hiking to the point. The whole city is visible from the top & the view is as beautiful as it can get.
Forts, Palaces & Temples:Udaipur being capital of Mewar dynasty have Lake Palace & City Palace. Both of which is open to public viewing. Further, if you have enough time to explore surrounding areas. Then, you are in for a ride. There are many forts & temples in & near Udaipur. Some of the temples worth visiting are Jagdish Temple in Udaipur, Eklinji Temple & Sahastra Bahu temple near Udaipur (a 40 min drive from the city) & Ranakpur temple.
Forts like Kumbalgarh, Chittorgarh are tourists delight. Both these forts are two & half hour drive from the city. Traveling to these forts become essential if you want to witness the history of India's royals.
Food Tour:Any trip is incomplete without a food tour. Rajasthani thali is very famous & there are numerous places where one can have thali. Gordhan Thal is one of the best places to eat Rajasthani Thali & after having thali one can enjoy a collection of heritage cars as well. Pyaaz ki kachori is locals delight, fried in oil this dish is pretty famous is must try. If visiting to Eklinji temple do savor on Mirchi Pakoda. You will not regret it ever. So, do try a different variety of food here.
Above is the list of activities which I feel is a must try. There are many small city's attractions like Saheliyon Ki Bari, Animal aid, Shilp Bazaar, Bagore Ki Haveli, etc which I feel should not be the sole purpose. If you have time you can visit these places if not you can skip it.
Usually, people make a Rajasthan trip which covers places like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer etc. Udaipur is great for 2 to 3 days & post that one can go from Udaipur to Jodhpur either by train, bus or private cab. The best & cheapest option will be bus between Udaipur to Jodhpur. Udaipur bus stand & railway station is located at approx 5 Km from the city center. So, you can choose any option based on your requirements.
