City of Lakes:

Udaipur is also known as the city of lakes, as there are many lakes in the city & near the city. Out of all the lakes in the vicinity, Lake Pichola is the one lake that you should visit. Most of the city attractions are near this lake only. An evening in the serene beauty of Lake Pichola is one of the rare experiences you will have while in the city. A boat ride is also one way to explore the city's most beautiful & mesmerizing lake. Apart from Lake Pichola, there is Badi Lake which is located in Badi village some 25 min drive from the city; Fatehpur Sagar lake which is in the city & Udaisagar lake, etc are some of the other lakes in Udaipur.

Monsoon Palace:

Monsoon Palace is located some 40 min drive from the city. It is also known by the name of Sajjan Garh Palace from whom this Palace was built. Located on one of the many hills overlooking Fateh Sagar Lake whose main purpose was to watch monsoon clouds thus getting its name as Monsoon Palace. The Palace is in the renovation stage. So, there is nothing much to see here. However, the view is amazing in the evenings especially sunsets. Some of the young couples are using this place for a pre-wedding photoshoot. The route from the entry gates to monsoon palace is worth riding. With each passing curve, one can witness a new view. A ride through the rough roads is a must.

Sunsets:

This activity is hardly mentioned anywhere in the blogs. When I visited Udaipur during the early winter season. I felt this should in the list of everyone. There are many places from where one can witness sunset & from each point there is something unique & beautiful. For example in Ambrai Ghat from one end, one can see sun rays falling on the walls of City Palace resulting in glowing yellow color building & from the other end one can see the sun vanishing into the mighty Aravali Hills. Another beautiful place to witness sunset is Karni Mata Temple. A ropeway is required to reach the top, there is also an option of hiking to the point. The whole city is visible from the top & the view is as beautiful as it can get.

Forts, Palaces & Temples:

Udaipur being capital of Mewar dynasty have Lake Palace & City Palace. Both of which is open to public viewing. Further, if you have enough time to explore surrounding areas. Then, you are in for a ride. There are many forts & temples in & near Udaipur. Some of the temples worth visiting are Jagdish Temple in Udaipur, Eklinji Temple & Sahastra Bahu temple near Udaipur (a 40 min drive from the city) & Ranakpur temple.

Usually, people make a Rajasthan trip which covers places like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer etc. Udaipur is great for 2 to 3 days & post that one can go from Udaipur to Jodhpur either by train, bus or private cab.
