How To Plan A Budget Trip

Budget is one of the most important things while planning a trip & it is probably one of the main reasons why people avoid traveling to their dream locations. However, is it hard or impossible to travel on a budget? Especially, at this time when most of the information is available with just one click. The answer is a simple “NO” period. There are ample ways which can help you to plan a budget trip. So, how to plan a budget trip?. This post will help you plan a budget trip in an affordable & doable way.

Table of Content:

1. Choosing destination:

When the world is at your disposal, choosing the right place is always a tedious part & with so many options to work from it corrupts our minds for expectations of better places. The best way to choose on the destination is based on your interests. If you like places with natural touch search for similar options. As the mind will always play games & you will miss an opportunity to travel to a place you always wanted to travel to. Shortlist the place & do not deviate from it. Research about a destination like what all you can do. Choosing a perfect destination is 1st step in planning a budget trip.

2. Visa requirement:

After shortlisting the destination read about the visa requirement, fee & process involved. As some destinations requirements are high compared to the others. Of all the destinations I traveled so far the most difficult was of Europe. So, it is better to research visa process & then go ahead with your plans.

3. Duration of travel:

Not every destination requires a month-long duration to explore. Some can be completed in a few days as well. I believe that one must spend at least 3 days at the same place to enjoy it fully. However, the duration of the travel must be in sync with your things to do & budget (which will be covered later). It is not required to do all the activities, you can only do those activities which you really want to. So, prioritize your activities & calculate the duration. In the case of multiple stops, it is recommended to consider extra days for each stop.

4. Travel budget:

Planning for a budget is the tricky part. But, if you want to travel sustainably it is recommended to stick to the budget. I know it gets lucrative to spend on all the activities once on the road. But, this is what will decide your fate of budget traveling. Search for basic prices of items & liquor this will help you to decide the upper limit of the budget. Suppose, if the meal prices are high then it is better to cook your own food. You can buy stuff from supermarkets which will significantly lower your expenses. Decide on the maximum amount you are willing to spend & work per day expenditure backward. This will help you massively in planning a budget trip.

5. Saving for the trip:

Once your budget is fixed it is time to save for that extra amount. Keep a check on your expenses. This is an entirely personal way of money management. Not spending is also one kind of savings. I personally don’t like to spend on things I don’t require. I don’t watch movies in the theaters, don’t eat outside, don’t shop much until & unless it is an absolute requirement & invest whenever possible. Along with this keep certain money aside each month & spend the rest. This will help you to plan your priorities. You can check the following books if money really matters to you.
Read these books if money really matters to you.

6. Seasons for traveling:

This is probably the most underrated & most missed point while planning a budget trip. As most of the people are aware that during the season prices of everything rises 2 or 3 times from the normal season. Traveling during the season has many benefits but those benefits don’t sync with the finances. I traveled to Cape Town during winters & it helped me to save on my accommodation by at least 50%. This is the impact of in season& off-season traveling. If budget is constraint then traveling off-season is highly recommended. It will help you to save at least 20 to 25% of the amount & with that amount you can travel to some new destinations. Deciding season is important step in how to plan a budget trip.

7. Book cheap flight tickets:

When all the above steps are done, it is time to book cheap flight tickets. You can check the following article which helps you to find cheap international flight tickets. Also, during off-season, there are massive discounts on flight tickets.

For Happiness Close Your Eyes & Ears

Happiness is among the few goals that one is thriving for. Happiness can be internal & external as well. But, why happiness is such a defining factor that every single human being on this planet is looking to find one. Happiness has many advantages apart from the most evident ones like being healthy, energetic, full of life & hopeful. However, on the other hand, life without happiness leads you to be miserable. We have created this life & still, we are unable to figure out why we can’t stay happy or be in a happy state most of the time. Is it really tough to stay happy in the life that we are only creating?

Have you ever seen a kid? They are innocent, happy & full of life but somehow we lose the same enthusiasm while growing up. So, what drastically happens during our way to growing up? The answer lies in the growing up only. As we grow up we are more aware of our surroundings & get much more influenced by it. So, our greed & need rises drastically while growing up. The need & greed of our daily lives cannot be matched with our living standards (if we don’t count people born with a silver spoon) & if the needs are not met then we are disappointed & unhappy with our lives. According to me, this is one of the topmost factors in making us miserable. Kids are new to this world & still not corrupted by the thoughts of owning things & wanting for more. They are satisfied with what they have in hand & enjoy it to the fullest. They are not aware if there is something more to life if not this. This is probably the reason why kids are happier & full of life.

    Happiness Mark My Adventure

If there is nothing to compare yourself to then there is no need to worry about ourselves & if there are no worries, we will live more content lives. Our worries rob us of our true selves & moments. The secret of staying happy lies at this very point of being blind & dumb to the outer world. If we want to be happy we have to adjust to the situation & stop looking for more than the available. If we will continue to look for the future we will always be living for the future & will miss the most amazing time i.e present time. It is tough to follow this advice of living in the moment. As our mind is constantly running for things beyond our reach. As Buddha said, “Control your mind or your mind will control you.” It is difficult to control our monkey mind. But, it is possible to control it. This can be done through practice. Any habit can be formed within months but for that, you need to be strong-headed.

To practice fullness you will have to fall back on your kid’s mind. The mind is unadulterated with the modern life thesis where everything is running & a race. A kid’s mind sees the object as it is without judging, without thinking about the recursions but just enjoying the present moment. Thus, it is blissful to see kids play because we want to reach that stage but we are stuck at the modern warfare of rat race. Being an adult we will have to realize that this life is for us, for creating ourselves rather than crawling our lives to the death bed. Who knows will we ever be able to born again on this planet. We only have a few years in our lives, 100 years if one is lucky enough. But, if you will analyze we only have 2 or 3 decades when we are at our peak. We are mentally, physically, emotionally fit & still, we are sad. This sadness is due to our uncontrolled mind which is constantly showing us the lives of others which we feel is better, happier & fulfilling but we forget to count our blessings.

Anyone can be happy you just need to follow few steps. There are many steps suggested by experts in this field; I will recommend you to watch the ted talk of Shaw Achor. Also, one more thing that has worked for me is visualization & writing down. Write down good things about your self no matter how minute it seems, write it down & say it every morning after waking up. After waking up say your blessings loud & thank god for giving you one life. Keep doing this for some time & the results can be seen & you will be much more energetic & full of life.

I hope this article will help you clear some of your thoughts of your cluttered mind. One only needs to win over his mind & rest things will fall in the place automatically. Also, if you are a book person & looking to read something about happiness click here to know more.

Books On Happiness Mark My Adventure

    Success Is Like Mirage

Success is the ultimate driving force that fuels our daily lives. But, the biggest question of the lot is how do we realize if we are successful? I came across this question when I was few years into my blog ; the blog is doing good since its origin; the visitors were growing at an organic pace & life seems to be good, considering a boy from a non tech background learned WordPress by his own & traveled to different countries to write about them. After touching the highest views in the month of Mar 2020. The views started to shrink & it started affecting my mindset & the foremost thing before starting any new venture is the mindset. It is easy to think of some situation & overcome it but equally difficult to solve it during the hour of need. So, once things started to go south; I started to question my mindset & things like why I am doing this, what is the sense of all these struggles, how it will help me to succeed. After much of introspection. I realized Success is a mirage.

    Why Mirage?

I knew that blogging will take at least 2 to 3 years before it gets noticed or any decent feedback. So, I was mentally prepared for it. So, I took one step a time; I set goals for 50 views, 100 views, 150 views, 200 views per month so on & build over that. At the start of my journey; I thought achieving these monthly goals will be my success barometer. However, as soon as I started reaching these goals I craved for more I started to try more but with little success. So, I started to become unthankful of my present. I was so much in the future that I forget to savor my present.

    Mirage
Mirage is an object which seems to be there but in reality, there is nothing. So, once we reach a point which we thought would be a great place; we are shocked & little confused. If this is how it should be after reaching the only thing we wished for. We become anxious about reality as we imagined it would be a blissful situation with no struggle & maximum satisfaction but it is a mirage. We started to think that happiness lies somewhere else & maybe the next milestone will help us attain that prime position.

Success is a mirage as we always shift our goals once we reach the said goals. So, we are never happy or satisfied with our position; this generally arises as the human mind has the power to increase the effect manifolds. Thus, when we reach the goal we are still lacking that extra high & if the imaginations never meet with the reality we often get sad.
This is the most common reason why so many people feel unsatisfied with their lives. As they only count how far they have to go rather than how far they have walked. We have to realize that happiness is a state of mind & if one can control the mind, one can be happy irrespective of the circumstances & irrespective of the outcomes. The joy should be in trying out new things & loving the experiences during the phase. However, we are only obsessed with results. As we feel results are will put authority on our capabilities which in some sense is true as well. But, the time we realize that destination is just a product of your efforts you will start to enjoy the process. This has been conveyed by so many great personalities like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Gary Vee etc. All these great personalities loved the process irrespective of the results.

    Success Pic Mark My Adventure
When I started my blogging journey I set my eyes on using it as a passive income which kept me going but after trying hard for 2 to 3 years I started to lose my zeal towards the process. As the process is slow, boring, mundane & it requires lots of sacrifices & when one is working for long without any prominent result; the energy diminishes & in most of cases we quit. This is the place where the champions are made; they stride forward during this time; why so? Because they love the process so no matter what are the problems in the path, they only concentrate on the process. Loving the process in this drenches journey is a must. But, I will leave this topic for the later. Let’s focus on being successful.

Rather than results determining your success any person is successful if he or she is looking to work towards their goals. If you will judge a person with the end results it achieves; one will be disappointed most of the time if not all. Beacuse only a handful of the people are able to reach their desired goals. One must be super lucky to achieve what they desire for. So, rather than hoping for the joy in the end result start looking for joy in the process. It is boring, monotonous & some times mundane. But, this is how you will beat the odds. When you stack up your daily work, you will shock to see how massive you can get in a lifetime. So, keep working towards your goals & keep enjoying the process. As the price of achieving the greats lies in these regular works. Stop falling for the mirage of success as it is never there in the definition of success. Success lies in challenging yourself daily & improving daily. Start celebrating these processes & who knows maybe you will be among the very few who achieve what they desire for & even if you don’t it doesn’t matter as the fun lies in the process of being uncomfortable, trying daily & working towards your goals daily.

    Hostel Review “Long Street Backpackers”

Long Street is a street which is lively & rocking throughout the night. If you want to stay in Cape Town; this street is one of the options you should look up to. Although, it is not near the coastal region this street has its highs. However, places like Signal hills, lion’s head , table mountain & city’s central are nearby this area. Hence, this can be a viable option to stay in Cape Town. During my trip to Cape Town, I stayed at this place & here is “Long Street Backpackers Hostel Review”

Long Street Backpackers Cape Town Hostel Review

    Location:

The best way to reach this place is by bus or uber. So, if you are coming from the airport. Take a bus to the civil center & from there to long street. From the long street, the hostel is at walkable distance. The hostel is surrounded by many great pubs & bars. Thus, you won’t feel bored ever.

    Why Chose This Place?

Young vibes, vibrant culture & great bartenders are some of the high points of staying at this place. Also, there are various night activities which will keep you active & full of energy. Also, the following points can help you to decide on the place.

    Staff:

The staff is super friendly, they will go the extent possible to help you. There is no such issue here. They can book tours for you & will also help you to plan your evenings.

    Travelers:

Being a hostel you can expect lots of crowd in the room, which can be great if you are traveling solo. Even during the off-season, the place was filled with the backpackers. It was quiet but you can expect a whole lot of crowd during the summer season which is also the peak season.

    Rooms:

Rooms are bit compact, there are too many beds in a single room. It is like that 3 Bedrooms are converted into the hostel & people in these rooms use one toilet among them. So, this might be a disappointment while staying in the hostel.

Hostel Room Long Street Backpack Mark My Adventure

    Cost:

The cost of the place is a touch on a higher side but this is the among the cheapest you can get. Expect to pay something around Rs 850 per bed per head. However, the price may vary depending on the season you book the place. Expect to pay a higher price during the peak seasons.

    Extras:

There is a locker available for which you require a padlock. It is better to carry a padlock with you during your trip. It is among one of the most essential accessories while traveling. Also, you will need to deposit 50R for the key in case you miss it, you will lose on your deposit.

    Kitchen:

There is an option of kitchen available. So, you can cook your meal. There is also a fridge where you can keep your food. This will certainly help you to keep your cost in check.

This is probably the best-located hostel at long street & may be among the wildest ones as well. You can spend quality nights here as all the major pubs & bars are at a walkable distance. So, next time if you are visiting Cape Town do plan to stay here for some time at least.

Lion’s Head Cape Town Hiking Guide

Cape Town is known for its beautiful nature & there is no hiding from this fact. Cape Town is also known as, Mother city. At one end of the city, there is a vast ocean & on the other side are two major attractions Table mountain & Lion’s head. Lion’s head hiking is great outdoor sports for the locals during the holidays. The peak probably got his name because of its structure. From Cliffton beach, the peak will give you an impression of Lion sitting. Maybe because of this fact the peak is known as Lion’s Head & any person who visits Cape Town will hike Lion’s head for sure. So, here is Lion’s Head (Cape Town) Hiking Guide.

    How To Reach Lion’s Head

The best way to reach Lion’s head parking lot is either through MyCiti Bus or by Uber. Check for Kloof Nek stop if you are traveling by My Citi Bus. Reaching Lion’s head is easy & so is the climb.

    Entrance To Lion Head

    Lion’s Head Hiking

The starting 20 min of a hike is pretty simple & easy. You only have to walk on the elevated path which doesn’t require any skill set. You walk & encounter some of the best scenes of Cape Town City. While the first corner will give you a glimpse of a chain of mountains on one side & secluded Cliffton beaches on the other. Another corner will give you a glimpse of Robben island which is located in the middle of an ocean & can be reached by ferry.

Hiking Lion’s head is pretty simple & beautiful. Just below the difficult hiking point, there is a bench placed. The bench overlooks the massive ocean which from that altitude looks like a flowing river & Cape Town city which seems to be insignificant in such beauty. With no object to disturb in front of you this bench is perfect to watch the sunset during summers.

After this point the real hike begins, the sedimentary rocks are solid & bit slippery at few places. After hiking for about half an hour from the start point there are two paths to the top; one is a tougher one which includes climbing a ladder & staplers which saves 15 min of your hike time with ease & other one is much simpler but is longer. So, depending on your liking for an adventure & strength you can take either one of them. I took the longer route. There are few high steps that one have to take. This half of the hiking is difficult & with each passing step, one is closure to the top. The more upwards you hike the more beautiful the scenes get. After 45 min one only checks how far the top is as the energy is draining. During one such point, an Asian origin man was descending & he said, “Man, we are not meant for such things; but hang on you are about to reach the top.”

Later did I realize that Indians are not walking enough, not doing enough of outdoor activities. Thus, the sentence is appropriate. It is an irony that we have youngest of the population & still, we are not on the list of happiest, healthiest countries of the world.

The ascending is gets tough but after overcoming all the obstacle I reached the top of the hill & from there I can see table mountain on one side, ocean on the other, city of Cape Town on the other & Cape Town famous beaches on the other. The view is just mesmerizing from the top. You will want to spend some quality time at the top.

Signal Hill Peak Mark My Adventure

My Experience of hiking Lion’s Head:

I did Lion’s head hike on the last day of my trip as I wanted to enjoy the sunset from the top of the peak. However, it was cloudy so I missed the opportunity to watch it during my expedition. The first half of the hiking is pretty simple & easy there is a slight gradient walk. But, the real fun starts once you reach the stairs from where the real hikes begin. Steps are generally tough for new ones because of strength and endurance & not most of us are built for this hardship. But, with all the strength I went ahead expecting whirlpool ride. There is a bench in the middle of the path which overlooks the ocean. I sat there for some time & started thinking about all the possibilities in the world. This is what, a good place does to you. It makes you think about the things that you don’t do during your day to day life.

Walking upwards in slippery rocks are difficult & scary. There are few edges from where you need to step upwards; the path is very well marked so there is no problem in getting the right direction. At some of the places, you will have to use a little bit of rock climbing techniques to climb some of the rocks. But, this all is manageable. Reaching the top is a memorable experience. In the background, there is a mountain, ocean, city & whatnot. You can easily spend quality time & many people do this. I sat there wondering about my trip & how I came from a small town to my 7th country.

It is funny how things fall into the pattern. You know nothing is happening on a daily basis. But, soon you are 1 year older, 365 days gone from your life & you are one year wiser. This was my that moment where I thought how far I have come rather than thinking about how far I have to go. Here it was a short guide about Lion’s Head Cape Town Hiking.
