Bangkok

Khao San Road My Adventure
Thailand has recently risen to one of the finest countries to travel too. There are number of factors because of which, this country has gained popularity. Topping the list are the factors like easy visa norms, vibrant culture & welcoming people. Thailand by far is one of the cheapest destinations in South East Asia & any traveler who fancies traveling the world must have visited this place or will be having this country on the list. This was my first ever trip to Thailand & I chose Bangkok & Pattaya as my destinations. Being a budget traveler. I traveled to this country on a budget & I am sure my experiences will help you plan in a better way.
Bangkok has tonnes of attractions for everyone ranging from world class malls to museums, from clubs to ruin city This place is blessed with everything you need. A 3 or 4 day tour is more than enough to cover this place. However, the vibe of the place is so good that many western people spend a month or more here.
Bangkok was never on my travel list. I wanted to travel to Bali for 13 days but I was not able to find any good deals on flights. So, decided to travel to Bangkok & then take a flight to Bali from Thailand. Thus, Bangkok came into my itinerary. I booked a flight from Chennai to Bangkok for Rs 6k. (I stay in Mumbai, I travelled to Chennai in train to keep check on my budget). I reached chennai in afternoon & had flight at night I was standing in queue little nervous, I tried to crack a conversation with a stranger who was an Indian but was working in Bangkok. I enquired about the process for visa on arrival; he told me "You need to show 10,000 THB on arrival (I had only 5,000 THB in cash & 250 USD) I got nervous but tried to hide it. I boarded the flight still nervous, a few hours later.

I landed in Bangkok airport in the morning around 4 am. I joined the queue for visa on arrival (every step towards counter made me nervous) I submitted my documents (proof of stay, return flight ticket & 1000 THB cash (visa fees) ) ; luckily I had taken printout of my documents. It took half an hour for the whole process to complete. Once the whole process was over, I stepped out as a relieved man.

It was still 4:30 in the morning,I thought of travelling to the hostel via taxi but that was getting costly. So, I decided to stay at the airport till morning & take a metro. I hadn't had a local sim, my phone doesn't catch wifi signals & I am travelling all by assumption hoping things will turn out well I had to go to Khao San road, I asked people in sign language or any other possible way to reach my hostel. Like always people helped me. I took a public bus to reach Khao san road. I stayed at The Aris hostel for 3 days. I paid 250 THB per day which was cheap considering the location of it. Khao San Road My Adventure
Bangkok's vibe is amazing, get dressed, wear sunglasses & roam like a king. I felt this was the perfect way to see the city. Use buses, ferries , tuk tuk or just walk. There are lots of attraction in & around Bangkok which are easily available. Buddha temple, downtown, Khaosan road, nana plaza, MBK, floating market are few of those attractions.

Best way to roam around is like a local; ask people about near by places. You will be amazed to see all the hidden places that no guidebook tells you. I ate street food which was very cheap a plate of noodle cost was 30 THB only. This helped me to keep my expense on the check. I visited most of the places other than temples.

I mostly took bus. I Stoped at random places & asked local about the best thing to do near that place. I was amazed by Nana plaza. This place opens at 7 pm & works late till the night. Apart from Nana Plaza, Khao San Road is a must visit place during the night. It is known as party street & is crowded with crazy people. this place is worth visiting

I went to Khao san road at 9:30 pm and it was all empty. I came to my hostel rested a bit & then went again with hostel mate at 12 & it was filled with people who were dancing on streets like anything. That particular scene made me realized how crazy the world is.It was an amazing experience I would recommend the same for every person who chooses Bangkok. This place helped me to know what Backpackers life actually is 😉

Things to do

Bangkok vibe is hard to match & it is irresistible to not to visit the place. The whole place can be covered in 3 to 4 days. It is recommended to spend atleast 3 days in this beautiful city.

Khao San Road:

No matter from where you come, this road is touched by each & every traveller while travelling to Bangkok. This place is on the list of every backpacker. The reason is pretty simple, the place is electrifying. The 100 mt road lits up around 10 or 11 pm & it stays this way till the early morning hours. The road has pubs, bars, cafes & what not. If you don't like loud music, then you should be better off this place. But, anyone who is a party lover & want to enjoy careless life. This road is for you my friend. Just enjoy your time here.

Nana Plaza:

The Most famous reason to visit Bangkok is to visit its red light area. The very famous adult area is a touristic attraction. The ideal time to visit the place is after 8 o clock. The crowd builds up slowly. Adult shows are the prime attraction of this place & no matter how people see this place, this place has lots of visitors.

MBK:

Shopping at this place is a special treat. 3 unending malls are the best place to shop. One can every brand ranging widely. So, depending on the budget one can choose his or her stuffs. The luxury brands are attractive & with so many options available it is literary impossible to miss the opportunity. If you don't want to buy and luxurious items, don't be sad. There is a mall just opposite to these 3 mega malls, which is built to cater the needs of ordinary citizens. The wholesale market has good variants & great product line. The fancy items are worth a buy. Ladies will have a fantastic time visiting these places.

Temples:

Thailand is a Buddhist country. So Buddha Temples are one of the major attraction here. There are plenty of places where one can have a religious trip. The Grand Buddha is the place to visit. Pay your respect to the lord while traveling in the city.

Chinatown:

A cheap shopping place in Bangkok. one can find anything here. Great places to eat. Ultimate architecture. Cycle rides are famous here. If you are interested in the street market then this place is for you. Lately china market has become attraction in every big city. The first copy of the products & the price tags make is exciting to visit. Why spend more if one can get near about same product at reasonable rate.

Ferry rides:

All movies which are shot here will definitely have a ferry scene. A small canal running across the Bangkok, is a way to commute. Maximum ticket is THB 14, a nice way to commute here & one of many things to experience. Traveling on the ferry is fun & fast as well. I would love to ride ferry again. It is fun.

Cost

I spent Rs 12,000 for 4 days trip to Bangkok & Pattaya. Following are the places where I spent my money.

Flights: I checked flights from skyscanner. Best part of skyscanner is that one can check on lowest prices from any place. Flights are cheaper from Kolkata, chennai & Kochi. I booked from Chennai at a cost of Rs 6000.

Stay: I booked a hostel for 4 days through booking.com. I only have to pay 250 THB for one booked. The hostel was next to Khao San Road. It was cheap compared to the location & also one of the best. I would recommend booking The Aris hostel prior to reaching.

Transport: I used public transport, I took buses to all the major attraction even metros. I saved alot in this way as charges of public transport were very minimum. Bus rides hardly cost anything, one way ferry cost was 14 THB.

Food: Food is never an issue in Bangkok. I ate street food as it helped me to customize it as per my liking; else it was very difficult to eat veg food without having any non veg content on it. The cost of noodle starts from THB 30 . For people who want beer, the best place is to buy from 7 Eleven , this store is nearly at every corner. Offers booze at as low as THB 18. The same drink will cost THB 100 in restaurants. This helps in keeping the price low

This was my first trip to Bangkok & I truly enjoyed it. I have not covered each & every corner but enough to keep me interested in this amazing place. I will try to visit it again & share some of the interesting stuff.
